IEEE 1284 Driver Windows 7 14: How to Install and Configure a Printer Connected to an LPT Port

Hello, I am trying to get my Texas Instruments DSK6711 DSP board communicating with my Windows 7 64-bit DELL Inspiron 15R laptop. The DSP board has a DB25 IEEE-1284 compliant parallel port ad my laptop has a USB port. I bought a USB to DB25 Parallel Port Adaptor cable to connect the DSP board to my laptop. Windows installs the USB Printer Support driver automatically but the DSP utility fails when invoked to check the connectivity. The DSP board documentation suggests I change the parallel port mode to ECP or EPP but I have no idea how to do that. I am also using Code Composer Studio V2.1 to send exedcutable code to the DSP board which is expecting an LPT printer port to be available but there is only a USB port with the adaptor cable plugged in. Can anyone suggest what I can do to get this cable working with my laptop and DSP board?

I just got a windows 7 machine have older laser printers (Lexmark 4039-12R & IBM Info print 20 4320-001) do you know if the ptr drivers are available so that I can use a USB to Parallel printer cable with these printers. Also I ordered XP mode as part of the windows 7 load. Does this help?

Okay... I powered up the 6L and went through the Add Printer routine. I started the Windows Update to add printer drivers and it just hangs there (30 minutes). The IEEE-1284 adapter issues appears to be resolved by swapping the cable to the front USB port.

During the iterations, sometimes I would get the "Installing device driver software" and other times I didn't. I would hot swap ports and sometimes it resolved the IEEE-1284 issue and sometimes it wouldn't.

When the IEEE-1284 issue is present, both the IEEE-1284 Adapter and the Laserjet 6L show as present and working properly. When using the current driver or replacing the driver, the end result is always the same: HP Laser Jet 2200 Series PCL 5 Driver... which is the first one in the drop down list. Windows Update does nothing.

It is strange that Windows 7 recognizes the HP Laserjet 6L, and the IEEE-1284 Adapter but won't actually install or update the driver. The only driver it installs, is the IEEE-1284 adapter and that is only 50% of the time and only when the HP Laserjet 6L is not recognized at the same time.

This option requires basic OS understanding.Select Your Operating System, download zipped files, and then proceed tomanually install them.Recommended if Ieee 1284 Controller is the only driver on your PC you wish to update. 2ff7e9595c
